Daycare closes after child allegedly taped to mat

A Northern Kentucky daycare has closed its doors after a worker was arrested for duct taping a child to a mat.

A spokeswoman for Mustard Seeds daycare tells FOX19 that the Ludlow location closed on Friday. Children at that location are now attending Mustard Seeds' Covington and Florence locations.

The worker, Alicia Lyons, 20, allegedly taped the child to calm him down. The incident happened a few months ago, but was recently brought to the attention of the child's mother by another worker.

The daycare said in a statement that they conducted an investigation into the allegations and Lyons admitted to the act. After her admission of guilt, Mustard Seeds says they fired her and notified police.

Lyons had been an employee at daycare facility since Aug. 18, 2011. Mustard Seeds says she passed all background checks required under state law.

Lyons is out of the Kenton County Detention Center on a $2,500 unsecured bond.
