Plant closing in West Chester causes hundreds of layoffs

WEST CHESTER, OH (FOX19) - An expected 365 workers are being laid off following an announcement that the Liz Claiborne Distribution Center in West Chester is closing.

Workers have been notified that the plant located at 8741 Jacquemin Drive, will close permanently by Sept. 1, 2012.

Employees received the news in a letter on Jan. 27.

According to an official notice filed with the State of Ohio, employees will receive at least 60 days notice in advance of his or her particular termination date.

Eleven employees, including forklift operators and distribution general warehouse personnel, are being let go between March 30 and April 13.

Of the 365 workers being laid off, 63 are non-union and 302 are represented by Worker's United, Chicago and Midwest Regional Joint Board.
