FAIRFIELD TWP, OH (FOX19) - Fairfield East Elementary was temporarily evacuated Tuesday morning after a report of a gas leak.
Fairfield Township fire crews responded to the scene just after 6:30 a.m. to check out a strong odor of gas in the kitchen. Upon arrival, multi gas monitors were used to analyze the air in the school and determined that there were no flammable or explosive gases present. This monitoring was followed up by a Duke Energy gas troubleshooter as a precautionary measure and the findings were the same.
The building was occupied by kitchen staff, maintenance and a limited number of staff and children in the latch key program, who were all evacuated as a precaution. They were allowed back in the building about 10 minutes later, after crews deemed it was safe.
No one was hurt.
