FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - Eight students and three adults were taken to the hospital after head-on collision involving a school bus and a pick up truck in Franklin Township.
The crash occurred just before 8 a.m. in the 6100 block of Manchester Road.
The bus was from the Middletown School District and transporting students to Middletown Christian School.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers say eight students were transported to Atrium Medical Center with minor injuries. The drivers of the pick up truck and the school bus, as well as a passenger in the truck, were also taken to the hospital with moderate injuries.
"The bus driver wanted to help but I just made her sit there because her leg was injured and we got the kids under control," said Nicole Winkler, who witnessed the crash.
Mark Spradling, superintendent of Middletown Christian Schools, says there were 45 children on the bus at the time of the crash. The students who were not hurt were transferred to another bus and taken to school.
Spradling commended the Middletown bus driver for keeping the children calm after the accident.
OSP troopers say the driver of the black Dodge pick up truck was traveling westbound on Manchester Road when he lost control on an icy overpass, sideswiped another pick up truck and then crossed left of center and hit the bus. The passenger in the truck suffered a head injury when he struck the windshield.
OSP says the driver of the pick up truck was speeding and will be cited.
