A Fed-Ex semi trailer flipped onto its side in the southbound Lytle tunnel Monday night, blocking all lanes and part of the other and closing the tunnel for about a half an hour.
Two tow trucks were in the tunnel, and a tractor-trailer had left after loading cargo from the fallen trailer. At 11:15, they righted the trailer. A second Fed-Ex trailer could be seen upright just ahead of the one that fell.
All traffic on I-71 was being forced to get off the highway before it reaches Kentucky or northbound 75. People trying to reach northbound 75 could get off at Gilbert Avenue, take it until it turns into 8th street, and take 8th or 9th street across downtown and follow the signs to get on northbound 75. Kentucky traffic could take the Third Street exit and go straight down 3rd Street and get on the left-hand ramp to rejoin southbound 71/75.
