Bystander Shot

Cincinnati police to release more information on shootout

Cincinnati police have scheduled a news conference this morning to release more information about a brief gun battle that wounded the suspect and a bystander Saturday. Officers are still investigating how a handcuffed 17-year-old sitting in the back of a police cruiser was able to get and fire a gun. Authorities say Officer Katrina Neal then stopped the car, rolled out, and exchanged gunfire with the suspect. It's unclear whether the bystander was shot by Neal or the suspect. The woman was treated at University Hospital and released. Neither the woman nor the suspect has been publicly identified. The teen's shoulder was grazed by a bullet. The officer wasn't hurt. Police spokesman Lieutenant Anthony Carter says the teenager's weapon could've been in the cruiser already, or officers could have missed it when they searched him.
