CPS announces intent to renew superintendent's contract for three years

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

In a unanimous vote, the Cincinnati Board of Education approved negations to renew Mary Ronan's contract extension.

Ronan, the superintendent of Cincinnati Public Schools since April 2009, will be able to negotiate over the next 30 days on a three-year contract extension, which would take effect on Aug. 1. She spent her career as a teacher, principal and a central administrator for CPS then was appointed as interim superintendent in 2008. Just seven months later, Ronan was selected as superintendent.

Board of Education President Eve Bolton said intent to renew Ronan's contract for three years show the need for leadership experience.

"CPS leads the state and, in many respects, the nation in educational reforms, we want that to continue as we move forward," said Bolton.

Under Ronan's leadership, student performance improved at 13 of the district's 16 lowest performing elementary schools.
