HAMILTON, OH (FOX19) - A Butler County jury has recommended that Victor Gantt, who was convicted of killing a 75-year-old Middletown man with an axe, be sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Gantt was convicted of aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, aggravated robbery and tampering with evidence. The jury deliberated for several hours Thursday before issuing their sentence. Gantt was facing the death penalty.

Gantt broke into the Middletown home of Leroy Jones and killed the 75-year-old man with a hand axe. Gantt then stayed inside the Jones' home for an hour and a half watching porn and then tried to burn the house down.

During the sentencing phase of the trial, Gantt took the stand to apologize to Jones' family.
