Cincinnati, OH (FOX19) - With record-setting kicker Mike Nugent set to become a free agent, the Bengals placed the team's franchise tag on Nugent, to keep him at Paul Brown Stadium at least one more year.
The deal will pay Nugent roughly $2.7 million for the 2012 season. The team and Nugent can continue to negotiate a longer term contract once the franchise tag has been accepted.
In 2011 Nugent set a team record with 33 field goals and 132 points.
Nugent is a Centerville, OH native and played college football at Ohio State.
