American Red Cross sets up sites in Moscow

MOSCOW, OH (FOX19) -

The American Red Cross announced Wednesday that it's opened a Client Assistance Center for the tornado victims in Moscow. Its function is to arrange financial assistance to victims who qualify so they can purchase their own food, groceries and toiletries.

Victims must go to the center at 2238 State Highway 756 in Washington Township and fill out an application. The Red Cross then researches and checks the legitimacy of the claim and, if the applicant qualifies, will provide the assistance. It will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as long as there is a need.

The non-profit organization also opened a shelter at the St. Peter Catholic Church at 1192 Bethel-New Richmond Road in New Richmond. It will be open 24 hours until further notice to assist those victims who lost their homes and do not have a place to sleep.

The Red Cross said families are advised to bring along basic emergency and personal items that can help them through the first 24 hours, including any necessary medications.

In addition to sheltering and meals, nurses and mental health professionals will be available for consultation.
