A Covington man will spend the next 30 years behind bars for murdering his mother.

Earl Knasel killed his mother, Barbara, in August of 2010 at their home on Blackburn Avenue. Police say she died of blunt force trauma.

Knasel was charged with first degree murder and pled guilty in January. Prosecutors were asking for life in prison, but Judge Gregory Bartlett gave Knasel the 30 year sentence instead. He faced a minimum of 25 years.
