Couple seriously injured in tornado recovering

Ted and Brenda Tolbert had been through a lot even before a tornado hit their home in Holton, Ind. on March 2. The tornado left both of them in critical condition at University Hospital.

Wednesday, Mrs. Tolbert was moved to Drake Hospital as her condition improved. Mr. Tolbert hopes to be moved to Drake on Thursday. But in the first few days after the tornado their daughter was scared that they wouldn't survive.

"I was scared that I would lose both of them," said Michelle Belanger, the couple's daughter.

But even before they went through this, Mr. Tolbert had undergone two heart operations and had battled cancer for years. He has been disabled for years. Neither of them are able to talk yet, but Belanger said both of them know they will recover.

"I guess when they saw each other they just stared at each other but at least they know each other's okay," she said. "They're wonderful people. I don't say that because they're my parents, I say that because it's true. They're the most honest, decent people I know. I'm grateful that they're alive. I just hate what they've had to go through"

The Tolberts have been together for 46 years.
