RUSK COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -
An East Texas constable and his wife are now facing drug and weapon charges. 36-year-old Benjamin Thomas Ferrell and his wife are both out of jail on bond.
F.B.I. Agents arrested Ferrell on charges that he conspired to possess and distribute various prescription drugs and marijuana. He is also accused of selling an SKS Assault Rifle to a known felon.
His wife, 32-year-old Amanda Gayle Ferrell, was also arrested and charged with two counts of manufactory and delivery of controlled substances, which is a state felony.
Rusky County Sheriff's Chief Deputy Ron Duncan told us he has known Ferrell for about twelve years.
"Ben has always been a real good guy; I never would have expected this out of Ben," Duncan he said.
"It's always unfortunate anytime somebody in law enforcement is arrested for committing a criminal law offense. It reflects negatively on everybody else who is dedicated to the profession, so it's always a surprise when somebody in law enforcement is arrested for violating the law," he explained.
