ELMWOOD PLACE, OH (FOX19) - An Elmwood Place couple is facing charges after their child was found wandering alone in the street.
Officers were called to the 300 block of Oak Street at around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday night on a report of a small child crossing Vine Street alone.
Officers responded and found a 2-year-old boy wearing only a polo shirt at he corner of Vine Street and Oak Street, in front of the market store. Officers searched the area, but could not find a parent, so they took the child to the police station.
Just before 10 p.m. Elmwood Place Officers and a Hamilton County Jobs and Family Services worker responded to a home in the 500 block of Oak Street after the officer on duty remembered small children playing in a yard in that area. The officer and JFS worker were greeted at the door by the mother and she advised she just realized she had a child missing but had not yet called the police.
Further investigation found that the mother is currently on probation for a similar charge from 2011 which she plead to a disorderly conduct. The wondering 2-year-old and his eight siblings (ages 15 to 6 months old) were removed from the residence by JFS workers and placed with family while the investigation is ongoing.
The child's parents, Erica Baynes, 29, and Darnell Baynes, 41, were arrested for one count of endangering children, a misdemeanor. Both were taken to the Hamilton County Justice Center. Both had their bond set at $2,500 during an arraignment Wednesday morning.
