Winton Woods approves layoffs, $1.4 million budget cut

FOREST PARK, OH (FOX19) -

The Winton Woods Board of Education voted at their March 26 meeting to cut $1.4 million from the district's 2012-13 budget.

As part of the reductions, 30 positions will be eliminated, including classroom teachers, school support positions, and clerical and security workers.

In addition, custodial and payroll services will be outsourced.

"Budget cuts are necessary due to the reduction of state funding, increases in health care costs and the elimination of federal funding for EdJobs," said Superintendent Dr. Camille Nasbe.

The cuts were made at Nasbe's recommendation.

The savings are in addition to the $2.6 million reduction in the district's 2011-12 budget. That budget eliminated 38 positions, froze wages through 2013-14, and implemented various cost-savings measures.

"As next year's enrollment and schedules become more definite, other cost-saving measures will be recommended to the Board," said Nasbe.
