FLORENCE, KY (FOX19) - Middle school students are lending a helping hand to military members.
The National Junior Honor Society at RA Jones Middle School kicked off a service project on Tuesday to collect items for soldiers who are serving overseas.
The school has partnered with the Yellow Ribbon Support Center and Keith Maupin, who spoke to the students during the assembly. Military members were also on hand to tell the students how much it means to receive care packages when serving overseas.
"When you're overseas and it's dirty and hot, getting some beef jerky is a great thing, but even more special is the fact that you know somebody cares. Especially the kids," said Cpt. Doug Godby.
The students will be collecting items through April.
