WHITE OAK, OH (FOX19) - A local pastor is encouraging his congregation to have more sex.
Beginning April 1, Light of the World Ministries and Pastor Mike Scruggs are kicking off a new sermon series called Battle of the Sexes. The month long series is designed to engage the religious community in healthy conversations about sex, love and relationships as well as implement strategies to strengthen marriages and develop better decision making for those currently unmarried.
Scruggs says "Right now we're having single people having too much sex and married people not having enough sex."
Scruggs has set up a bed and even a stripper's pole on the church stage to make his point. Its a subject that fellow pastor Ennis Tait says is appropriate from the pulpit. "Who better than the church to really bring clarity this....what I call this holy concept that has been ordained by God."
Tait admits the subject of sex is avoided by some conservative churches. "I think sometimes were are hesitant to talk about it or reluctant to talk about because people still view it as taboo."
Sex therapist, Dr. Jill Bley says marital intimacy can be complicated. "Often we have to get into relationship issues instead of sexual issues because he needs to help more or actually do his share around the house in order to find more time for sex and to alleviate her of the burden so she'll have more energy."
Throughout the month of April, Pastor Scruggs will address the dos and don'ts of the bedroom, intimacy blockers, trust issues as well as challenging married couples to take the Sexperiment (phrase coined by Ed Young), which partially entails couples having sex for seven consecutive days. With the stage complete with a bed and a stripper pole, this series will take place every Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and Wednesday at 7 p.m. at the "Light" House, 5915 Colerain Avenue.
Scruggs says there are untold couples living in a marriage without intimacy, or sex. According to experts, a sexless relationship is one in which the frequency of sex has dwindled to 10 times or less in a year. Statistics suggest that more than 15-20 percent of couples in America come under this category.
Scruggs says the intimate connection that results from sex is often the glue that holds a marriage together.
There will be a pre-kickoff service for singles on Friday, March 30 called the One Night Stand. National speaker, Dr. R.A. Vernon, Senior Pastor of the "Word" Church in Cleveland, OH, will be the guest speaker and will be engaging hundreds of singles from all over the Tri-State area on his "10 Rules of Dating."
Light of the World Ministries is a non-denominational church located in Greater Cincinnati.
