CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

The Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden's gorilla family of four; Kwashi, Mara, Mlinzi, and Samantha prepared for Saturday's big Easter Celebration with their annual Gorilla Easter Egg Hunt.

The gorillas searched for several Easter baskets filled with peanuts, raisins, popcorn, sunflower seeds and granola, as well as dozens of colorful hard-boiled eggs, hidden throughout the exhibit.

Hunting for eggs is not only an Easter tradition at the Zoo, but it's also a nutritious treat and a great enrichment activity for the gorillas.

Like humans, gorillas enjoy peeling each egg first. Also, hunting for the treats is actually a lot like the behavior these animals would display in the wild while foraging for food.

Then on Saturday, guests can enjoy the Zoo's Easter Celebration from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

The event will also feature a variety of treat stations, children's activities and visits with the Easter Bunny.
