Police chase suspect's SUV dangles off bridge

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A suspect is seriously injured in a police chase Friday morning.

It started around 2:00 a.m. when an state patrolman tried to make a traffic stop on 275.

Officers say the driver, Gary Meece, 63, did not stop.

Instead, officers say Meece lead them on a 4 mile, high speed chase.

The chase headed to Beechmont Avenue where troopers say Meece struck a curb and lost control.

The SUV slid across the center line, off the road, striking a number of objects before coming to rest off the side of the bridge.

The fire department had to cut Meece out of his SUV.

He's now in the hospital where he's listed in critical condition.

Officers say Meece was not wearing a seatbelt and alcohol appears to be a factor in the crash.
