Cause of costly Middletown fire released

MIDDLETOWN, OH (FOX19) - Fire investigators have released the cause of a Middletown industrial fire.

Late last month, a fire at Midwest Switchgear caused $2.5 million in damage.

The cause of the fire has been ruled as accidental due to spontaneous combustion due in part to poorly discarded cleaning rags stored in an improper container to close to table storing ignitable liquids.

Midwest Switchgear repairs and refurbishes control transfers switches and transformers for many of the power companies in the Kentucky, Ohio, West Virginia and Pennsylvania area.

They are currently working out of a facility in Monroe, Ohio and are planning on rebuilding in the Middletown area.
