AKRON, Ohio (AP) - A schedule conflict has delayed the trial of an Ohio man charged with shooting his wife of 45 years in a hospital intensive care unit in what may have been a mercy killing. The prosecutor's office says the judge is involved in another trial, so today's start of the aggravated murder trial of John Wise in Akron was postponed until August. He has pleaded not guilty.
FREMONT, Ohio (AP) - Whirlpool is beginning soil and water testing at a former park in a northern Ohio area where cancer has sickened dozens of children for more than a decade. The Michigan-based appliance manufacturer has a washing machine factory in the nearby town of Clyde and once owned the park.
LOGAN, Ohio (AP) - Authorities say a 52-year-old man died when he fell from a cliff while rappelling in southeastern Ohio over the weekend. The Ohio Department of Natural Resources said the man died in the fall Saturday in Hocking Hills State Forest near Logan. Agency spokesman Mark Bruce said the man - who is from Centerville, in the Dayton area - fell from the top of a 130-foot cliff.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - A Democratic state lawmaker is announcing plans to challenge Ohio Treasurer Josh Mandel (man-DEHL') in 2014. Third-term state Rep. Connie Pillich, of suburban Cincinnati, says she'll focus her campaign on fighting for working families, fellow small business owners and senior citizens. Pillich has been a lawyer, businesswoman and captain in the U.S. Air Force.
