NEW MIAMI, OH (FOX19) - A New Miami officer was hit by a car while making a standard traffic stop.

Shortly before 11:00 on Tuesday, Officer Pat Fackey, 31, had a small truck stopped on southbound 127, just north of Hamilton.

The Butler County Sheriff's Office says Fackey was inside the cruiser when it was sideswiped from the rear by a white Nissan. That car then drove into a nearby ditch.

The driver of the Nissan, Jake Cordero,20, has been charged with two felonies of leaving the scene of the accident and tampering with evidence. The passenger in the car Layna Carpenter, 30, was booked in the Butler County Jail on an outstanding warrant for contempt of court. She was not charged in relation to the accident.

The driver being pulled over by Officer Fackey witnessed the accident.

"All of a sudden another vehicle came down and struck him and then went right passed me right down the embankment," said Will Caphart-Gidney. "It took a minute to react and realize what just happened."

The officer was treated at Fort Hamilton Hospital and released.
