Gas attendant rescues woman from burning car

WATERBURY, CT (WFSB) -

A Mobil gas attendant is being called a hero after rescuing a woman from a burning car.

When flames started shooting from under Cecilia Forget's Chevy at a Mobil gas station in Waterbury, Edmund Laho jumped in her car without even thinking about it.

"He's my hero, and if wasn't for him, I don't know what would have happened," Forget said.

Forget said she was ready to pay for gas when somebody screamed that her car was on fire

As her sister pulled their stunned mother from the backseat, others at the gas station started running away. But Laho ran toward the burning car, barreling through the wall of fire, and dove into the driver's seat and moved the car away from the pump.

The pump had been shut off, but there was still gas in the Chevy's tank. Forget's sister said you never know what could have happened.

Laho said he had no fear after working in mines in Albania 1,400 feet underground.

"I am not afraid. In my life, I wanted to do everything good for people, to help people. I am not afraid," he said.
