A couple living at the Garden Manor Retirement Village, on Route 4 in southwest Middletown, was taken to the hospital shortly after midnight Wednesday morning, after they were exposed to smoke from a fire in their suite.
The fire was limited to one room in the retirement complex, but caused significant damage to that room and caused neighboring rooms to be evacuated.
The couple was taken to Atrium Medical Center in Middletown with non-life threatening smoke inhalation.
There were no other injuries. The fire department cleared scene the scene and the neighbors were allowed back in at 2:30 a.m. The cause of fire is under investigation.
