CINCINNATI, OH (AP) -
Supporters of the Cincinnati Art Museum are upset about the departure of a beloved curator for a job in Canada, saying the loss will be hard to recover from.
The fans of curator Benedict Leca took their concerns inside the museum Friday and unfurled banners expressing their support for Leca.
The Cincinnati Enquirer reports Saturday that Leca will leave Cincinnati to become director of curatorial affairs at an Ontario museum.
Leca has been curator of European Painting in Cincinnati since 2007, and is regarded for his exhibits on Rembrandt, British portraitist Thomas Gainsborough and the current "Monet in Giverny."
The museum rejected offers to keep Leca, including a proposed $2 million endowment, saying that while Leca was offered a salary increase, he wanted managerial responsibilities that weren't available.
