Suspect in strangling, hammer assault, and robbery turns himself in

AURORA, IN (FOX19) - A man wanted for days on charges he choked a woman, smashed her head into the floor, threatened her with a hammer, and robbed her has turned himself in.

Police say Michael Abbott turned himself in to the Ripley County Sheriff's Department in Versailles, Indiana at 10:55 a.m. Saturday.  The Sheriff's office there says he thought he had warrants in that county, but he didn't, but they took him into custody on the Dearborn County charges.

The victim told police she was been robbed by the Abbott last weekend while inside of his apartment, which is located on Exporting Street in Aurora.

The victim said Abbott  strangled her to the point of knocking her out. When she awoke, she says the man was beating her head on the floor.  The victim said Abbott threatened her with a hammer.

Police say the victim had head, eye and face injuries.

She was treated for her injuries and released.
