Teens learn, find job opportunities

Posted: Updated:

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Thunder and Derby are sure signs summer is in the forecast. Right now is the time for teens and college students to find summer employment. This weekend Project One, Inc., a Louisville based 501(c)3 non-profit, is working to find teens and young men and women a job.

Hundreds packed a west end building Saturday. They learned what it takes to get a job, fill out a resume and how to find summer employment. Some were inner city kids and some were from throughout the community.

Congressman John Yarmuth was there to push them along the way. "This is the kind of community-wide effort that's required to provide opportunity to young people, particularly in this economy," Rep. Yarmuth said.

Shatwan Richardson, 17, said he found Project One to be a valuable resource. "It's an easier way to get a job. They're out here to help you," he said.

"Employers are saying we want someone who knows how to fill out an application and be at work on time and dress for success. We try to teach those skills before we send them out," Project One founder and CEO Charles King said.
