UPDATE: Name released in fatal Harrison accident

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

A pedestrian is hit and killed in Harrison Township.

It happened just before 6:00 a.m. on Harrison Avenue.

Deputies say Melissa Meyers, 43, was walking on the road when she collapsed due to a pre-existing medical condition.

Patrick Runtz, 25, was driving on Harrison when the car in front of him veered to avoid Meyers.  Officers say Runtz was unaware that Meyers was in the road until he hit her with his car.

Meyers was pronounced dead at the scene.

At the time of the incident, Meyers was dressed in dark clothing and walking in an area that was not lighted.

Alcohol and/or drugs of abuse are not believed to be factors in this crash.

Speed did appear to be a factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Traffic Safety Unit.
