Utility Watchdog

First female consumers' counsel takes office

Ohio's first female utility watchdog was sworn in yesterday, pledging to take companies to court -- if necessary -- to protect consumers. Janine Migden-Ostrander succeeds Robert Tongren, who resigned as Consumers' Counsel in November amid charges he wrongfully destroyed a controversial document and accepting gifts from utilities. In taking the oath of office from Attorney General Jim Petro, Migden-Ostrander said she would represent millions of Ohio's utility consumers with passion and commitment.
