An Amelia man gets six years in jail for the crash that killed a township trustee-elect.
In a Clermont County courtroom, Jack Richards Jr. was sentenced to six years in jail on one count of vehicular manslaughter and three counts of vehicular assault relating to the November 2011 crash that killed 72-year-old Jim Bushman.
Police say Richards was trying to pass a van in his pick up truck when he lost control and hit the van.
The truck then went off the left side of the road, hitting and killing Bushman who was taking out his trash.
Richards apologized to the family and accepted responsibility for his actions.
"I'm really sorry for what I did. If I could take it back I would. I don't know exactly how they feel but I understand," says Richards.
The judge also ordered Richards to pay restitution to Bushman's widow for funeral costs totaling more than $12,000.
