Middletown Man Accused of Scamming Concealed Gun Permit Applicants

Butler County authorities have accused a firearms instructor of falsifying the training he offered to people seeking permits to carry concealed weapons. Sheriff's officers said they arrested 68-year-old James Burgess of Middletown this afternoon on charges of falsification and carrying a loaded concealed weapon without a permit. Officers said Burgess was charging 100-dollar fees to applicants for concealed-carry weapons permit training, but was giving them less than the state-required 12 hours of firearms training. Officers said firearems training certificates issued by Burgess are not valid.
