KY National Guard expanding into Boone County

BURLINGTON, KY (FOX19) -

The Kentucky National Guard is close to expanding into Boone County.

The $20 million Readiness Center on Conrad Lane is expected to open in March of next year.

The center will be home to the Kentucky Army National Guard's 1204th Aviation Support Battalion. It will make rapid response and transportation available for government officials in the case of a local disaster.

"Boone County is privileged and honored to have this new facility in our county. We very much appreciate being a part of the cooperative effort which brought this project to fruition. As in the past, we look forward to working with and supporting the efforts of the Kentucky National Guard," said Boone County Judge/Executive Gary Moore.

The center is fully funded by the federal government and will bring about 20 new full-time jobs.

Construction started in September of 2011.
