MASON, OH (FOX19) - A lightning strike looks to be the cause of a house fire in Mason.
The fire broke out early this morning before 3:00 a.m. in the 5100 block of Songwood Drive.
Neighbors say they actually saw the strike and flash and helped two women inside the home get out safely.
Those neighbors also called 911.
Smoke detectors did not sound, but were working inside the two story residence.
When firefighters arrived, they saw flames shooting through the roof.
Five fire departments were called in to fight the blaze including Mason, Lebanon, Deerfield, Liberty Township and West Chester.
We're told the home's roof collapsed and six firefighters who were inside at the time made it out safely.
The roof burned off and the home sustained heavy water damage. The damage was assessed at $200,000.
Two women inside the home were alerted by a neighbor and escaped without injury.
We asked about Red Cross assistance for the homeowners but were told those services were not needed because victims have family nearby.
