An elderly woman was injured after being hit by an SUV early Friday morning in Longview.
Mary Neal, 86, was struck by an SUV about 5:15 a.m as she tried to cross Gilmer Road, north of the intersection of Loop 281.
The driver of the vehicle, Charles Patrick McClain of Longview, said he did not see Neal, police said.
Police say Neal was walking from the Walgreens parking lot.
Neal was thrown a distance of around 40 feet, landing near the curb.
"She's such a strong lady to have lived through something like this and still be as happy as she is, amazing she survived," said Destiny Hooper.
"she did survive, she has some injuries but they're non life threatening at this time , which is very remarkable," said Longview police officer Kristie Brian.
Miss Neal is still in the hospital listed in critical condition, but expected to survive.
