Nancy Smith, the Lorain Head start bus driver who was convicted in 1994 of driving children on her school bus to a home to be molested, appeared as a guest on Anderson Cooper Friday.
Her conviction was later overturned by Judge James Burge, but not until she had spent 15 years in prison. Her story was the subject of several reports on 19 Action News, including an explosive videotape of a police line-up that appears to show the children being coached to pick out suspect Joseph Smith. Smith was also convicted and then freed with Nancy Smith.
On the program, she explains that she had hope concerning her case, but she never thought that her daughter would be the champion of her cause.
In addition, Nancy talks about how she could have gotten out of prison sooner had she been willing to confess. Nancy also tells how it feels to know that many people, over the years, have not believed that she was guilty.
