Lighthouse Plan

Inn plans on hold for 100-year-old Toledo lighthouse

Plans are on hold to turn the century-old Toledo Harbor lighthouse into a restaurant and inn. A group planning to restore and convert the three-story lighthouse lost a 500-thousand dollar grant that would have paid for a wind turbine to provide electricity for the project. But the federal dollars are still coming to Toledo. The turbine instead will be built at the cargo docks of the Lucas County Port Authority. A spokesman for Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, a Toledo Democrat, says the project still will bring energy savings to the region. Steve Katich adds the turbine will demonstrate alternatives to burning coal and oil to generate electricity. A 100th anniversary celebration is still planned this July for the lighthouse.
