Police: Man hit mother-in-law with frying pan, handcuffed her during assault

MCDONOUGH, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -

A man was arrested in McDonough after he allegedly assaulted his mother-in-law with a frying pan.

Police say around 7 p.m. Tuesday, Michael Payne burglarized his mother-in-law's house.

Payne then assaulted her with a frying pan, striking her in the head and face multiple times, according to reports.

Police say Payne taped her mouth closed, tied her up and handcuffed her.

Payne's wife and her son arrived home a short time later.

Reports say Payne pointed a pistol at them and would not let them leave.

After a few hours his ex-wife convinced Payne to release her mother and he fled left the scene

Payne was found at a rest stop in Aiken, South Carolina and was arrested on the warrant from Henry County.

He is charged with aggravated assault, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, and burglary.
