Oxford schools lock down as police search for armed and dangerous man

OXFORD, OH (FOX19) - Schools in Oxford were placed on lock down for a short time on Friday as police searched for a man they consider armed and dangerous.

Police say Jonathan Colwell left his brother's residence on the 4200 block of Oxford-Reily Rd. following an altercation. Colwell reportedly stole a shotgun and ammunition from his brother before leaving.

The location of the incident is close to Talawanda Middle School, and as a safety precaution, school administrators initiated their safety plan at Kramer Elementary School, Talawanda Middle School, and Talawanda High School. Miami University Police also issued a campus alert.

Colwell is 6' 5" tall and has brown hair and hazel eyes. He was last seen wearing  a red and white checkered shirt, blue jeans, and a dark colored zipped hoodie. Felony theft charges are pending against him, and he is also wanted by the Union County, IN Sheriff's Office.

Officers recovered the shotgun during the investigation, but police are still considering him armed and dangerous. If you see Colwell, please call 911.
