Nevada's attorney general is threatening legal action if the US Department of Energy doesn't keep radioactive waste from a former uranium processing plant in Ohio out of his state. The Cincinnati Enquirer says a letter sent Tuesday to the Department of Energy by Nevada Attorney General Brian Sandoval says the plan to dump waste from the Fernald silos in Ohio at a nuclear-waste repository in Nevada violates federal and state law. Sandoval threatens in the letter to file a federal lawsuit and seek a court injunction to stop the shipments before they can begin. DOE spokesman Joe Davis says government lawyers are reviewing the letter and the plan. A lawsuit could further delay cleanup at the Fernald site near Cincinnati.
