Army Changes Maupin's Status

Army changes soldier's status listing to "captured"

The Army says it has changed the official status of a US soldier taken hostage in Iraq to "captured." Army Major Mark Magalski said today the change of status for Private First Class Keith "Matt" Maupin of Batavia was made after the release of a videotape showing the 20-year-old soldier being held by five masked gunmen. Maupin had been listed as "whereabouts unknwon" after his convoy was attacked in Iraq on April ninth. The Arabic television station Al-Jazeera aired the video footage of Maupin in captivity last Friday.
