CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - The largest steamboat ever built received a big send off on Friday as it starts its trip to the Kentucky Derby.
The American Queen previously retired in 2008 so this marks the return of the steamboat to Cincinnati. The steam boat will travel down the Ohio River from Cincinnati to Louisville. And will arrive there for the 138th running of the Kentucky Derby.
The send off included entertainment from Cincinnati Circus Company and the Showboat Majestic performers and the Cincinnati's Mayor Mark Mallory read an official proclamation. Mallory declared Friday as American Queen Day.
The American Queen is one of three vessels of the Delta Queen Steamboat Company that traces its roots to 1890.
