Murder Convict

Man convicted of killing ex-girlfriend

A Butler County jury that convicted a man of killing his former girlfriend will now decide whether to recommend that he be executed for the slaying. The jury deliberated about three hours yesterday before convicting Anthony Mason of having killed 27-year-old Angela Turley and assaulted her mother, Janie Turley. Police said the women were attacked on May 13th during an argument at a Hamilton apartment the mother and daughter shared. The 44-year-old Mason -- of Covington, Kentucky -- was found guilty as charged of aggravated murder and using a gun during the crime, felonious assault and aggravated burglary.

The judge could sentence Mason to death -- if the jury recommends execution over the option of life in prison. The defense plans to present testimony from Mason's family at a hearing that begins tomorrow to decide his punishment.
