MT. HEALTHY, OH (FOX19) – -
A man who punched and dragged a Mt. Healthy police officer is in jail on charges of drug paraphernalia and failure to comply with an officer. Allen Taite, allegedly punched one officer and dragged him on Hamilton Avenue before leading police on a chase that ended on I-275.
The chase started when Allen Taite, 34, was pulled over for a traffic violation on Hamilton Avenue near Ronald Reagan Highway in Mt. Healthy. After a scuffle with officers, Tate got back in his blue pickup truck with his two young sons and led police onto Ronald Reagan, then Blue Rock Road, then onto I-275.
The children's mother, carrying a seven month old in a car seat, came to the scene on the interstate and picked up the two boys from the back of a police car to her car.
Around the start of the chase, a Mt. Healthy Police car crashed into a small truck on Hamilton at St. Clair (by Speedway and White Castle), and possibly hit a small SUV as well. The police car had plenty of damage to its right front corner. The truck was off the roadway, with the police car and SUV out in the roadway, and Hamilton Avenue closed. There was no immediate indication whether that police car was part of the chase or was trying to join up with it.
More charges are expected, Taite will be in court at 9:00AM.
No word on what charges Taite will face.
