Interstate I-71 in Louisville will be under construction once again, following Kentucky Derby festivities.
Between I-64 and I-264, both directions of I-71 will be completely closed throughout the weekend of May 11-14.
Crews will be paving southbound lanes, and making bridge deck repairs on the northbound side. Vehicles will need to follow a signed detour on I-64 and the Watterson.
The Louisville District Department of Highways is hoping that complete closure of I-71 will speed up the process of paving the southbound side, rather than closing one lane at a time.
In May and June, motorists should expect more lane closures in the weeks ahead during construction.
The weekend of June 1-4, the northbound side of I-71 will be completely closed to finish paving those lanes.
The $10.9 million project is scheduled for completion in early June, subject to change for inclement weather or other unforeseeable delays.
