Visitation draws hundreds for fallen Marine J.P. Huling

SYCAMORE TOWNSHIP, OH (FOX19) - The visitation for Marine Sergeant J. P. Huling of West Chester attracted hundreds of community members, students, friends and family at his alma mater, Moeller High School in Kenwood.

The visitation and funeral are open to all to the public but the family requested the media remain across the street from Moeller during the visitation.

Moeller high school senior Michael Riney says he even though he did not know Sgt. Huling he wanted to come and honor their Moeller connection.

"I'm starting to understand more and more the brotherhood that goes with Moeller. I understand J.P. was a Moeller grad so I was just coming down here to support another Moeller grad and brotherhood," says Riney.

Also in attendance to escort the family from the funeral home to the visitation was Ohio's patriot Guard Riders, a national group of bikers and veterans dedicated to supporting the family of fallen soldiers.

"When this is all over with if we could leave them with just a little ray of sunshine on a tragic day, we've done our job and we've honored their child and their military service," says state Captain Bob Woods.

Sgt. Huling's funeral was held on Tuesday at St. Michael's Church in Sharonville.

After this weeks events, Sgt. Huling's body will be flown to Washington D.C., where he will be buried with full military honors at Arlington National Cemetery.

Sgt. Huling died from a gunshot wound last weekend in Afghanistan.  He was an explosive ordinance technician based at Camp Pendleton in California.

Sgt. Huling's remains arrived in Butler County Sunday afternoon.
