Reds third baseman Scott Rolen has gone back on the 15-day disabled list because of a problem with his left shoulder, which had surgery last year.
The 37-year-old infielder has struggled at the plate, batting only .174 with two homers and 11 RBIs. He was examined by a doctor Saturday and went on the DL with a strained shoulder, which has been a chronic problem. He played in only 65 games last season because of the shoulder, having surgery Aug. 3.
Cincinnati called up third baseman Mike Costanzo before the second game of a series against the Washington Nationals.
Rolen is in the final year of his contract and has acknowledged he's unsure if it will be his last in baseball.
