Veteran Pit Man Dies

Don DeCecco, a race-day member of the No. 01 MB2 Motorsports pit crew, died Tuesday from esophageal cancer at his home in Spartanburg, S.C.

He is survived by his wife Linda.

A memorial service was scheduled for Friday at 11 a.m. at Eggers Funeral Home, Spartanburg. For directions, call: 864-578-3838.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be sent to Spartanburg Humane Society, 150 Dexter Road, Spartanburg, S.C., 29303 or Spartanburg Children’s Shelter, P.O. Box 2663, Spartanburg, S.C., 29304.

DeCecco, 57, was the team's gas man. He had been associated with MB2 since the team’s first season in 1997. Before that, DeCecco was a crew member for Hendrick Motorsports and David Pearson Racing and was on the team during Larry Pearson’s 1986 and 1987 Busch Series championship seasons.

DeCecco was also employed at BICO South, a steel manufacturing company in Spartanburg.
