Cicadas pose problem for graduations, outdoor events
They're coming. Five billion cicadas are expected to emerge soon in west-central and southwest Ohio. The questions is, is it better to avoid, endure, or embrace the pesky insects?
Cincinnati State Technical and Community College has decided to move its June graduation ceremony inside. And the Springer School shot its outdoor graduating class photos on Friday, instead of early June, because the swarming bugs can prevent students from sitting still for the picture. But there are those who are taking the invasion in stride.
Mother of Mercy High School will be holding a "Cicada Reunion" on school grounds on June third. A school spokeswoman says it will be a fun thing to embrace the bugs rather than trying to fight them.
