CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) - Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory declared it to be National Safe Boating Week.
Cincinnati's mayor went on a tour of the Cincinnati Fire Department's river operations rescue boats on Friday.
Every year almost 700 people die in boating related accidents and officials believe that 70 percent of those are preventable. Police remind boaters to use common sense, do not drink and drive and wear a life-vest at all times while on a boat.
National Safe Boating week begins on Saturday and will continue through May 25.
