WARRICK CO., IN (WFIE) -

A Warrick County mother has been arrested and charged with attempted murder for a Tuesday incident at her home.

Detectives say it was the actions of an older sister that may have saved her brother's life.

Around 6:30 a.m., a girl called 911 and told dispatchers her mother, 36-year-old Jennifer Miller, was attacking her brother.

"My mom locked my brother in the room and she won't open the door," the 911 call stated.

"The mother walked out, put her hand out to the child to lead him back to the bedroom. At that point, when they made it to her bedroom, she locked the door behind them," said Lt. Michael Wilder with Warrick County Sheriff's Office.

Wilder says once inside, Miller sat him on the bed, pulled out a 12-inch long kitchen knife and attacked. At one point in the 911 call, the girl says her mother has a knife, and that she cut her brother's face.

The daughter, her sister and brother were able to escape from the apartment with the help of a neighbor.

The sheriff's office says they have done welfare checks on Miller and her children in the past. Her daughter told dispatch, she had never done anything like this before, but that she had been acting strange recently.

"Last night, she went to my sister's bedroom and started saying Bible verses to her and then this morning she did it again," said the girl in the 911 call.

From the 911 call, it seems the boy was locked in the room for about 10 minutes.

The boy suffered minor cuts to his face, arm and neck. He was treated at the scene.

"It had to be pretty traumatic to him. Any one to come at you with a knife, but then for it to be your own mother, and not really know what the intentions were," said Wilder.

She has been charged with attempted murder, criminal confinement, and battery with a weapon resulting in injury.

All three of the children are now with Child Protective Services.
